Dear Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin,
URGENT APPEAL TO DIRECT THE FINANCE MINISTER TO INCLUDE KETA, ANLOGA, AND KETU SOUTH SEA DREDGING AND SEA DEFENSE PROJECTS IN THE 2024 BUDGETS
I trust this letter finds you in good health and high spirits.
My name is Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, a citizen of Nukpesekope-Keta in the Volta Region.
Mr. speaker, I am extremely worried about the fate of our dear Volta coastal lands and how fast they are disappearing due to coastal erosion and tidal waves, thus my decision to write you this letter.
Mr. speaker, as a citizen and not a spectator, I am writing to bring to your attention a matter of utmost importance to the good people of Southern Volta concerning the exclusion of Environment and Coastal Protection in the 2024 budget currently under consideration by parliament.
It has come to light after reading the 2024 budget for several times that the proposed budget does not include provisions for these crucial projects related to Sea Dredging and Sea Defense projects in the areas of Keta, Anloga, and Ketu South. As you may be aware, these constituencies are vulnerable to the adverse effects of coastal erosion and rising sea levels, posing significant threats to the livelihoods and safety of the residents.
The omission of these vital projects in the budget is a matter of great concern to the communities that rely on these coastal areas for survival. These areas are facing imminent threats that demand urgent attention.
I, therefore, kindly urge you to intervene and ensure the inclusion of the Keta, Anloga, and Ketu South Sea Dredging and Sea Defense projects in the 2024 budget before its final appropriation and approval by parliament.
The timely implementation of these projects is crucial to safeguarding the environment, protecting the communities from potential disasters, and promoting sustainable development in the region. I believe that your leadership and influence can play a pivotal role in rectifying this omission and addressing the needs of the affected communities.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and your commitment to the well-being of the people you represent. I am confident that with your support, we can ensure the inclusion of these essential projects in the budget, contributing to the resilience and prosperity of the coastal communities in question.
