Ghanaians are yearning for the return of former president John Dramani Mahama to restore the nation to its glorious days, given the level of economic hardship and insecurity bedeviling the country over the last six years, according to the outspoken Volta Regional Deputy Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Elliot Wogbe. His comment comes in the wake of the recent leaked audio purportedly capturing a senior police officer and some bigwigs of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on plans to install a new ‘puppet’ Inspector General of Police (IGP) to do the bidding of the governing NPP towards winning the general elections in 2024.
The spirited NDC man is adamant that John Mahama’s victory at the December 2024 polls cannot be threatened by any partisan manipulation from the Akufo-Addo led government through the police or the Electoral Commission (EC). ” Those who think they can connive with the independent institutions in order to rig the 2024 elections in their favour should bear in mind that they have the Youth of Ghana to contend with”, Mr. Wogbe told DFS Live News. The NDC deputy organizer noted that members and supporters of his party have remained patient even in the face of manipulation and interference from the government in the affairs of independent state institutions just because they “wanted the constitution and democracy to work”. With a specific focus on the Volta region, the tough-speaking politician cautions that “Any individual deployed to intimidate the citizens of this country, especially in the Volta Region, should think twice before obeying such orders. The youth of the country will no longer condone any wrongdoing, and we are ready to protect our interest and our democracy”.
On Tuesday 11th July this year, Ghanaians woke up to an explosive secret audio recording allegedly between some senior officers of the Ghana Police Service of which COP George Alex Mensah featured prominently with some NPP top shots who were heard planning on means to remove the current IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare because in their assessment, he will be an obstacle to the NPP rigging machinery as the police chief. DFS Live News, however, cannot independently verify the authenticity of the recording.
