It was an atmosphere of inspiration, excitement and camaraderie at the maiden Youth Hangout event organized by the Digital Foot Soldiers(DFS) over the weekend in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency. The event which was organized in collaboration with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency drew patrons and participants from the opposition NDC and businessman for a conversation on how to strategically position the youth in the party to win power in the 2024 crucial Elections.
The event on Saturday, September 24, was held at the Assembly Hall of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) basic school which is located behind the Atomic Police station in Accra. Party officials from the regional office, executives from neighbouring constituencies, youth activists, leaderships of Tertiary Educational Institution Network (TEIN) and Branch Youth organizers from all the eighteen (18) electoral areas in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency (DKC) attended the interactive event.
In his welcome address, the current NDC deputy youth organizer of DKC who is aspiring for the substantive position, Alhaji M. Kara, recounted the success story of the Youth Wing over the years in all elections since the Constituency was carved out of Ga North in 2004. He stressed that the Youth have been the backbone of the party and charged them to do more for the party to win the 2024 general elections. ” Let us stay focused and not allow any individual or a group to divide our front. We the youth are the protectors of the party so let us work hard for victory in this election and I assure you everyone will reap the fruits of their labour when we win”, he told the young men and women.
The deputy Greater Accra regional Youth Organizer, Amorse Blessing Amos, on his part challenged the NDC youth to work with the data and figures in their bid to annex power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in December 2024. According to him, the NDC can win the upcoming elections with the right approach and leadership. “I am one person who does not play with the data at all. You follow the direction of the data and work around it. When we saw the trend in Okaikwei, we studied it and put in the right strategies and today we have that seat” the firebrand youth leader stated. He gave accounts of how the Youth Wing under his direct supervision made concerted efforts to ensure the emergence of TEIN members as Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidents and leaders in Wisconsin University College and other tertiary institutions. He singled out the secretary of the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Comrade Thomas Dodzi Tsoekeku for commendation for his role in ensuring the recent successes recorded in the Wisconsin University College students’ elections.
Taking his turn, the regional Youth Organizer, Mr. Thomas Nii Ashong, told the gathering that the notion of party strongholds is misleading and challenged the young men and women to work towards winning the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency for the NDC for the first time. The longest-serving Regional Youth Organizer of any political party in the country appealed to the NDC faithfuls to eschew all forms of greed and champion the interest of the party in any association they find themselves in.
With a thunderous applause and cheers of “honourable” “incoming” among others, the former Parliamentary Candidate (PC) aspirant of the NDC in DKC, Hon. Israel Nornyibey took his turn to address the audience. He was described by the organizers of the event as the Youth Patron at heart and in deeds due to his numerous financial assistance and support to the youth groups over the last four years in the Constituency. He called on the youth Organizers to set their eyes on the bigger picture of winning the elections 2024 and close their ranks for in order to attain this aim. There was a moment of loud cheers and jubilation in the hall when the Businessman and philanthropist gave an indication of his preparedness to take another shot at the party’s Parliamentary Candidate position when it comes up for grabs next year. “Of course I’m in the race again, make no mistake about it and this time things will be different” he noted in what appears to be a response to a comment from one of the participants.
The Youth Hangout from the DFS Team has been described as an innovative and impactful concept and has attracted interest from political leaders from various constituencies. The Team has assured patrons and the general public of more innovative and captivating concepts to be carried out across the country.
