Parliament has mounted a hot new chase for the runaway Member of the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency in what appears to be a last-ditch effort to bring the lawmaker out from her hideout after several failed attempts. The MP’s absence for months has raised several concerns from her constituents and incurred the wrath of leading members of the governing party, of which she is a member.
In a release signed by the Public Affairs Director of Parliament, Kate Addo, the Chairman of the Privileges Committee has directed Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo to appear before them on 6th July 2022 at noon at the New Administration Block Committee rooms 1,2 and 3. The directive is pursuant to Article 103 (6) of the 1992 constitution and Order 205 of the Standing Orders of Parliament. The summons, according to the release ” forms part of the committee’s work, referred to it by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, pursuant to Article 97 (1)(c) of the constitution and Order 15 and 16(1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament for consideration and reports to the House, on the absence of the Member from Parliament for more than fifteen sittings, without permission in writing to the Speaker, during the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana”. According to the Public Affairs Director, all attempts by the Committee to reach the MP have been futile.
Making her first public appearance via Zoom in many months on a private TV station’s program, The Pulse, the Gender and Social Protection Minister in her newly acquired American accent denied knowledge of any invitation letter served to her in any form, saying “As we speak, I don’t know that I have been invited. I have to be served. I am not aware any such thing has been given to me. I am just hearing it from you,” she explained during the interview with the news channel. The minister further disclosed that she has been taking care of her unwell son in an unknown location in the US, the reason she hasn’t been in Ghana to assume her official duties. Several party leaders and her colleague Members of Parliament including; her one-time lover and father of her children; Hon. Kennedy Agyapong have called for her removal from Parliament and to be dismissed as a minister of state, a move the minority caucus through the Chief Whip, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak has served notice of resisting on grounds of what he calls ‘ good practices and bad faith’.

The news outlet will soon publish details on why the minister and lawmaker; who has gone awol; is still given premium treatment amongst her colleagues as her salary, allowances and other juicy official perks are prioritized even before her colleague ministers and MPs’ have theirs hit their accounts.
