The Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency, Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu has handed over motorcycles to some young persons in the constituency as part of the MP’s Youth in Driving and Riding initiative. This, according to the MP, is to help reduce the youth unemployment by creating mobile entrepreneurs.

At a brief ceremony at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra for the presentation, lawyer Xavier Sosu announced that the deployment of the motorcycles only forms part of the Phase 1 of the initiative. ” This is the first phase under the Youth in Driving and Riding initiative. The next batch will witness deployment of cars under the same conditions and so let’s all embrace this concept to cushion us in this bad economic condition in the country” the MP said. He charged the youth to take bold and positive steps because “not taking a risk itself is a risk.

The initiative is a subsidiary of the Madina Job Centre which was launched by Hon. Sosu in November 2020, a time he was aspiring to be a Member of Parliament. Since its establishment, according to the MP, more than 4,500 people have benefitted from the Job Centre through vocational training, providing start-ups and linking job seekers to jobs. The Centre has also supported over 100 women in Mushroom farming.

Gigmile, a logistics company, is the sponsoring partner for the Youth in Driving and Riding initiative and has encouraged the youth to take advantage of the program in making a decent living. The company will collaborate with the Job Centre to provide a connection for the beneficiaries in supplies deliveries. The cost of registering and insuring the Motorcycles are borne by the Office of the Member of Parliament.
Beneficiaries of the initiative were not required to make any advance payment for the motorcycles. They underwent an orientation and were taken through the terms of ownership of the cycles.

Speaking to DFS Live News on behalf of his fellow beneficiaries, Mr. John Dzani thanked the Member of Parliament for the kind gesture and assured him of their resolve to engage in a profitable venture with the Motorcycles. He disclosed that he and his colleagues paid nothing for selection as beneficiaries. The CEO of the Madina Job Centre Mrs. Plange speaking to DFS Live News encouraged the youth within the Constituency to be part of this initiative as she highlights some areas her outfit focuses on such as Vocational and Apprenticeship Module, Entrepreneurship Module and Job Recruitment Module.
In attendance of the ceremony were the Constituency Chairman, secretary, Treasurer youth organizer and the Deputy Communications Officer, Mr Justice Tengey of the NDC all in the Madina Constituency.
