The rate at which Terrorism attack is escalating in West Africa sub – region Coastal enclaves with Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire and Togo recording their deadliest attacks put Ghana at a high risk of terrorism threat terrifying its citizens. As an expert in security let me state on record that, apart from Ghanaian being vigilant and careful in their activities, the government of Ghana must not just see this attack as an external threat which deflect the fact that, the terrorists group do not operate in a vacuum and that local vulnerabilities are exploit, for this reason it is important for government officials to note that, under the surface lies a covert of network that ensures terrorism continues in the region so for Ghana to curb the high risk of attack, government must address the social, economic and political factors that makes vulnerable people join or being use by the tourists groups in their modus operandi. Critical examples of the factors are:High cost of living, High rate of unemployment and underemployment level in Ghana, High level of corruption.
Again, acknowledging the fact that, places in Ghana where local Conflict has still not been resolved especially at some northern border communities can serve as an entry point for terrorists’groups, who pose as arbiters or supporters of various sides, for this reason joint planning and cross – border coordination strategies should be adopted to curb the risk of attack.
Nevertheless, personal and habitual security should be ensuredby Ghanaians using their six senses like the eye, nose, skin etc. For example; Ghanaians must stimulate to their environment by checking the activities of each individual around them at any given time whether at Church, Mosques, Supermarkets, local markets, Parks, Beaches, Mall and many more, since the terrorists’ groups mostly operate in a place where there are many people. When the risk of attack per intelligence becomes high curfew should be imposed on people at the hotspot areas where intelligence pin points out with movements of individuals being restricted.
