Residents of Kwabenya, Comet, Ashongman Estate, and other adjoining communities within the Ga-East district of the Greater Accra region are appealing to the ruling New Patriotic Party – NPP government to as a matter of urgency fix their deplorable road network that leads through to Abokobi – (Agbogba, Boye) etc, the district capital of the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
The road leading to Boye through to Abokobi and Ashongman Estate last stop through to Abgogba and other communities is in bad shape making it difficult for commuters to ply the road.
Some angry residents accuse authorities of the Ga-East district Assembly of claims that the road has been already awarded to a contractor although there is constantly no work done on the road network.
The residents further hinted that they are normally charged exorbitant fares from commercial drivers before they carry them to their various destinations whenever the need arises due to the long distance through Atomic roundabout to Madina with such a terrific traffic these days.
Speaking to DFS News team, the aggrieved residents are appealing to the Roads and Highways Ministry to as a matter of urgency work on their deplorable road network and bring it into good and proper shape to ease movement from one community to the other since we’re still in the “Year of Roads”.
A resident by name Kwaku Frimpong Manso, told DFS News, the road leading from the Pokuase interchange supposed to be a dual road to join Kwabenya through to the Academic City road leading to Agbogba from Anyaa-Awoshie main road constructed by the visionary leader H.E former President John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, he could remember very well when shops along the Kwabenya ACP road where demolished to pave way for that project but till date nothing has been done on those roads. Then again to ease the traffic from Kwabenya to Madina using the Atomic roundabout road, resident prefer alternative route like the academic city road and the Ashongman Estate last stop road which is in a deplorable state and needs urgent attention since drivers and passengers using those route are complaining bitterly.
Good road transport has so many benefits to countries, companies and individuals but the NPP government led by Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia has totally lost focus because one of the contentious issues arising from his recent State of the Nations Address (SoNA) was the claim that in five years, his government has constructed over 10,000 km of road in Ghana and the question Ghanaians keep asking is why the government is only paying lips service to germane issues like road constructions especially in the Dome/ Kwabenya Constituency.
It’s unfortunate that the New Patriotic Party has forgotten that good road network can facilitate the movement of goods and people, create employment, support economic growth, enhance access to education and health care services, as well as connect people to families and entertainment events, but after winning power the NPP government led by Nana Addo and Bawumia which enjoyed huge electoral favors, rather chose to engage in lies as some aggrieved Residents of Agbogba lamented to DFS News team.
