The Greater Accra Constituency chairmen of the opposition NDC have endorsed the return of former president John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2024 polls. In a visit to the former president at his residence, the group also called on him to prevail on the party’s leadership to expedite action on the timeline and roadmap of the party’s reorganization process.

Speaking at the gathering on behalf of the 34 Constituency chairmen, the leader of the caucus, Mr. Tony Afenyo, who is also the Ashaiman Constituency chairman of the NDC assured the former president of their unflinching support as they did in the past. ” We have come here to collectively throw our support behind you to lead us again into 2024 to redeem Ghana from the current situation she finds herself”, Mr. Afenyo said on behalf of the group. The delegation was received by the former president in the company of former chief of staff, Hon. Julius Debrah and Dr. Calistus Mahama who is a chief administrator at the office of John Mahama.

In a recent report, the Economic Intelligence Unit(EIU) which is a London based think thank predicted a victory for the NDC partly based on a change of its candidate. The NDC chairmen, however, were of the view that only a John Mahama candidacy can guarantee the party’s victory in the next elections.

According to the group, nothing can stop the party’s victory at the polls, saying ” we will behind you just as we gave you our support when you came around for the 2020 elections and we will not fall for any clever trick to look elsewhere, your Excellency”. On his part, the former president thanked the chairmen for their endorsement and called on them to tighten every loose end ahead of the 2024 elections through the ongoing reorganization process. ” We need to keep the Constituency active.

You’re the focal point of the Constituency and deal with everyday issue on the grounds all the time. Things look bright but we need to work harder” , Mahama cautioned the chairmen.

The Greater Accra Chairmen Team from inception has been embarking on annual retreats to plan and strategize on how to manage their respective Constituencies and engage stakeholders in the party for preparation towards elections.
